Welcome to my Chicken Scratch page. I like to search the internet and find all kinds of useful information that can help me and others on all topics of poultry. So this will be a little of the things I have found that may be of interest to you. The Marans
This is an awesome book published by Serger Deprez and Christian Herment. It is totally in the French language but one can do some translation with it and get a much better understanding as to what the Marans consist of from the very beginning. This is one book I would recommend for all Marans breeders. I also strongly encourage membership to them Marans Club of France as well.
This is probably one of the most in depth books I have every encounter on incubation of any type of eggs. It was so detailed when it came to incubation of chicken eggs, both natural and artificial, that I would recommend it to anyone who is a breeder of Marans. It is sold by Brinsea.com and can be purchased from the link below. A truly great investment.
Genetics of Chicken Colours
Now for the one and only book that can teaches it all, shows it all, and explains it all on poultry genetics. I was fortunate to receive this a s a gift from David Hancox and let me say this book is one of a kind.
I have actually placed this bock on the front of my desktop and laptop to have it as accessible as possible. I’m not a genetics expert by far but having this book in reach does give me the ability to teach myself just a little every day. This book is hard to find and if and when it is available I would strongly suggest setting the funds set aside to purchase it when it becomes available again.
Exhibition Poultry
There use to be Poultry Press magazine but now there Exhibition Poultry. As far as I’m concern there’s no comparison with the article’s and helping one to understand all there is involved in exhibiting Poultry. Ann Charles is doing an awesome job with this online issue. The pd form is available for free when newly published, so I would suggest saving them to your computer and referencing back to them every so often. Matter of fact they could be printed off and placed into a notebook and then you would have them all handy. There is a small fee for back issues once they become outdated. Ann is awesome to work with and someone that goes the extra mile with this new online magazine.
